Consistency key to winning titles, says Alonso

5 August 2010

Former double World Champion Fernando Alonso has returned to title contention since the back-to-back races in Germany and Hungary, now lying just 20 points off the championship lead. However, the Oviedo man stresses that remaining calm and organised will be a chief factor in the 2010 title battle.

Alonso is yet to lead the way overall since the before the Malaysian Grand Prix back in early April, when team-mate Felipe Massa momentarily moved ahead. However, the Spaniard is confident that Ferrari very much remains a contender.

“There are five drivers fighting for the championship and there are seven races to go now,” he said. “Anything can happen in these seven races, so we need to be the best one in this last part of the championship.

“We are now in a position where are able to take the lead of the championship if we win one race. I think we have to remain calm. We know that four or five drivers will fight until the last race, but we need to use our experience as a team.

“Ferrari have won so many championships and (I have) my personal experience as well, fighting for three championships. We have to stay and get as many podiums as possible in these seven races. I think continuity will be key to winning the championship.”
