Briatore: Webber on his way to championship title

5 August 2010

According to former Renault F1 team boss Flavio Briatore, Mark Webber will win the 2010 Formula 1 championship this season. Briatore, who also happens to be Webber's Manager, has said that the Australian is one of the most intelligent drivers on the current grid.

“Mark my words,” the 60-year-old warns in Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. “Webber is on his way to winning the championship this season.

"I'm not just saying this because he is one of my drivers, but because everyone who watches his latest races can see it. Mark is a driver who can deliver exceptional performances on-track and shows that he is extremely mature on-track, too.

“In Hungary he was the first driver to realise he could take a bit of a risk to drive for 75 percent of the race on the softer Bridgestone compound; that decision brought him his victory in Hungary - it just proves what an intelligent driver he is.”

Thanks to his victory at the Hungaroring, Webber now heads the standings with 161 points, edging out McLaren's Lewis Hamilton by the slim margin of four points.
