Championship leader Mark Webber admits that Red Bull Racing may struggle for top speeds in comparison to its closest rivals on those tracks containing predominantly long straights, most notably Spa-Francorchamps and Monza which are next up on the calendar.
Having led the standings after his superb wins in Barcelona and Monte-Carlo, Webber shot back to the top on Sunday courtesy of his fourth success of the season in Hungary. However, the Australian remains realistic with regards to the circuit types on which his Renault-powered RB6 will be strongest and weakest.
“We’ve shown this year that the car is performing on all tracks, so we hope we don’t have any weak circuits,” he said on the Red Bull website.
“Singapore should be good, Suzuka, Brazil and Abu Dhabi. We’re a little bit worried about how the long straights might go at some of the other venues, at Monza maybe, but the car is very, very strong at most tracks so we’re ready to take on anyone at any venue.”
Mark also has a number of personal targets lined up, with seven rounds remaining. “It would be nice to win Spa, Suzuka and a few other victories - and along with that hopefully comes something special,” he smiled.
“I have a few of my goals already in the pocket this year, which is sensational , but we have some great races coming up in the future - some real signature events which would be great to win.
“At some tracks we’re not quite there or I’m not quite there; we’ve had some small hiccups but you need perfect weekends to win at this level. Every race gives 25 points and we need to perform everywhere - if we can do that, you never know what could happen at the end of the year.”
