According to Formula 1 boss the 2012 US Grand Prix is likely to be held in June, most likely a week ahead or after the Canadian Grand Prix. Formula 1 will return to the United States with Austin organising the race as of 2012 on a brand-new, Hermann Tilke designed, circuit.
Speaking about a possible slot for the United States Grand Prix Bernie Eccestone was quoted by the official Formula 1 site as saying: “We have to wait and see, but it would be logical to place it close to the race in Montreal and that would mean somewhere in June.”
Ecclestone furthermore said there could always be room in the future for another race in the US. Speaking about a possible second Grand Prix for Formula 1 in the United States he said: “Let’s make one thing clear: Austin will be the US Grand Prix. But that does not mean that we cannot have another race in the US with another label. I would be insane if there were the option to race in New York and I said ‘no thanks’. But for now that’s nothing more than a pipe dream. The reality is we have a contract with Austin and it is there where the US Grand Prix will be staged.”
