Räikkönen doubting F1 comeback

23 August 2010

2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen has admitted that he does not plan to return to Formula 1, despite several rumours circulating the internet and pit lanes of the sport this year.

Räikkönen made his way to the World Rally Championship (WRC) for 2010 after Ferrari elected to end the Finn’s contract a year early in favour of Fernando Alonso, who currently sits fifth in the standings after 12 of this season’s 19 Grands Prix.

However, with Spa – the scene of Räikkönen’s last victory in 2009 – coming up this weekend and with Renault believed to be interested in securing the Espoo man’s services, he spoke to Finland's MTV3.

“I could have the opportunity to return but I think I've rounded off that career,” he said, with Räikkönen-Renault hearsay having also circulated prior to his title-winning campaign of three years ago.
