It is believed that Ferrari is pondering whether to take civil action against Formula 1 governing body the FIA, should the latter strip the team of its German Grand Prix points at the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing in Paris next month.
With Felipe Massa having yielded at Hockenheim to allow team-mate Fernando Alonso to head a 1-2 finish, the Italian outfit was judged to have broken sporting rules which state that any team instruction should never modify the outcome of a Grand Prix.
Already fined 100,000 dollars (just under 65,000 pounds) by the FIA on the evening which followed the race – a punishment which Ferrari chose not to appeal – a date of Wednesday 8 September is in place for the WMSC hearing, which could see the federation dock the team’s 43 scored points from Germany.
However, according to reports in the Italian press which began to emerge on Monday afternoon, Ferrari may take legal action against the FIA if the points are indeed removed in their battle for the Constructors’ Championship.
Since being contacted by GPUpdate.net on Monday afternoon, Ferrari has been unavailable for comment regarding the matter.
