Renault F1 has confirmed that no substitute reserve driver will be announced for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, despite Ho-Pin Tung still being injured following his GP2 accident in Hungary at the end of last month.
With the Dutch-Chinese driver having been hurt when his DAMS was involved in a full frontal impact with Jules Bianchi’s spun ART Grand Prix car at the Hungaroring’s first corner, the 27-year-old will remain out of action this weekend.
The following statement was released by Renault F1 on Tuesday afternoon:
‘Renault F1 Team third driver Ho-Pin Tung is making a good recovery from the small fracture to the lumbar vertebra that he sustained during the GP2 Feature Race at the Hungaroring.
A medical examination this week confirmed that he is on the road to a full recovery, but that Ho-Pin will be unable to compete this weekend in Spa.
A further medical assessment will be made prior to the next race in Monza. The Renault F1 Team will not name an official replacement as third driver.’
