'Pirelli preparing to test at Paul Ricard next week'

25 August 2010

2011 Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli is set to travel to Paul Ricard in France in order to continue evaluating next year’s products next week, according to Italian website 422race.com. The company first ran new signing and ex-Mercedes GP reserve Nick Heidfeld in a run at Mugello last Wednesday and Thursday.

With Heidfeld having split from Mercedes in order to become Pirelli’s official tyre tester, the company is not prohibited from testing as it is not an officially registered F1 team (with in-season circuit running having been banned for teams since the start of last year).

Continuing with a 2009 Toyota, Heidfeld is set to be at the French circuit next week before then testing at Monza following this year’s Grand Prix at the Italian circuit in three weekends’ time.

Meanwhile, Ben Hanley is believed to be in the running for a GP2 run with Pirelli, as the F1 feeder series also switches tyre supplier for next season.
