Hispania Racing driver Karun Chandhok will lay down the first Formula 1 rubber on the brand-new Yeongam circuit in Korea next Saturday as he borrows the Red Bull Racing demonstration car for a promotional run.
With the Republic of Korea set to host its inaugural Grand Prix – Round 17 of the 19-race World Championship – on 24 October Chandhok, a former member of the Red Bull Junior Team, is delighted to be involved.
“I was happy to fill in,” said the Indian. “It'll be a real honour to be one of the first people to drive around the new Korean circuit. The layout looks quite good fun, on paper, and I look forward to driving a winning team’s car there next weekend.”
Due to its position on the calendar the anti-clockwise, 18-cornered, three and a half-mile track is likely to play a pivotal role in deciding the outcome of this year’s championship.
