Vettel: Margin for error now a lot smaller

26 August 2010

Sebastian Vettel has acknowledged the fact that there is no longer room for error, with just seven races remaining until the conclusion of this year’s World Championship. Heading into Spa, the German Red Bull driver is placed third in the standings and just ten points behind team-mate Mark Webber.

Anoraks were out in force on Thursday as a heavy downpour ensured that many entered the paddock drenched. In the FIA press conference, however, laughter could be heard as Vettel discussed how the tension is now rising in the 2010 battle.

“Of course, you could argue that we should have had more points,” he began, “but other teams and other drivers are in the same situation and they could have scored more points as well.

“But as a saying goes in Germany, 'If the dog wasn’t having a s***, he would have caught the cat!’ It's all ‘coulda, woulda, shoulda’ but we stand where we stand.

“The margin for error is a lot less, now. With twenty races to go, you can afford a mistake or two, but with seven to go you can't.”
