Michael Schumacher has today sent former Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello a text message in which he apologised for almost taking the Brazilian out of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The German’s Mercedes drifted across the main straight and for that reason has been handed a 10-place grid drop for this weekend’s race at Spa.
With Williams’ Barrichello – who celebrates his 300th Grand Prix start in Belgium – having been clearly distressed by the Mercedes man’s dangerous move, Schumacher soon apologised via the German version of his personal website but only now has elected to send the Paulista a personal message.
“I have no problems speaking with Rubens,” Schumacher commented on Thursday afternoon.
“There are two reasons I sent him a text; one of the main ones is that this is his 300th Grand Prix and we have quite a history together - I thought it was appropriate to congratulate him.
“Plus (I wanted to) clarify the point because he felt I wanted to push him against the wall and that was not my intention; I wanted to race very tightly, without any contact, but if he felt that was the case then I’m sorry for that.”
