Horner confident that car is legal

27 August 2010

Team Principal Christian Horner remains certain that Red Bull’s car will fulfil the requirements of this weekend’s FIA tests, which have been ramped up by the Formula 1 governing body following complaints from rival teams surrounding flexible front wings.

With the flexi front wing debacle having come out into the open at Hockenheim before moving up a gear at the Hungaroring a month ago, the Red Bull has continued to successfully pass the FIA’s tests despite a number of criticisms from key figures of other teams, not least McLaren’s Martin Whitmarsh.

“The weather’s awful, that’s one thing that was predictable!” Horner laughed when talking to BBC Sport at Spa on Friday morning. “Everybody looks a bit healthier, I think they’ve all enjoyed their two weeks off. So much has happened in the previous twelve races and I’m sure they’ll be a lot more to come in the remaining seven - this season seems to have flown by.”

When quizzed over the front wing issue, Horner remained adamant that the part is not illegitimate.

“All cars have to comply with the same rules,” he said. “Our car has complied with the rules at every race so far; I’m confident it will comply here and at all races which remain. There’s been a lot of noise over it but I think our guys take it as a compliment.

“It’s down to the FIA, at the end of the day, and we’re just happy that our car complies; they’ve had concerns, they’ve increased their tests as a result and I’m confident that it will still comply with those tests.

“We’ll change nothing. This year so far it’s been about suspension, active suspension, active rides heights and all kinds of other things. This week it’s been a front wing - after that what’s left? It can surely only be the drivers after that!”
