Barrichello becomes GPDA Chairman

28 August 2010

Williams' Rubens Barrichello, the most experienced driver in Formula 1 history, has been elected head of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) by his fellow competitors.

Set to start his 300th Grand Prix at Spa on Sunday, the Brazilian takes over the role previously held by Nick Heidfeld as the former Mercedes GP reserve driver gives up that position in order to contribute to Pirelli’s 2011 tyre testing programme.

Barrichello therefore joins other GPDA heads Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
