Glock receives penalty as Trulli is fined

28 August 2010

After registering Virgin Racing’s best ever qualifying result at Spa on Sunday, moving into Q2 and managing 17th place, Timo Glock has been penalised five grid spots for blocking Sakon Yamamoto. Former Toyota team-mate Jarno Trulli is also in trouble with race stewards, handed a 4,400 euro (3,650 pound) fine for pit lane speeding.

With Yamamoto’s Hispania having reached as high as 13th on the timesheets during the rain-caused chaos of Q1 in Belgium, the Japanese driver eventually slipped to 21st and the drop zone as he was delayed by German driver Glock.

Timo is therefore demoted to 22nd place which, combined with Michael Schumacher’s 10-place grid drop which leaves him 21st, elevates Yamamoto two places to 19th.

Trulli’s speeding was also caught in the first phase of the qualifying session, with the Italian Lotus man having qualified 18th but also now moving up two positions as the Mercedes and Virgin slide backwards down the order.
