Jarno Trulli finished Belgian Grand Prix qualifying eliminated from Q1 and highly frustrating on Saturday afternoon, having been a victim of what he describes as ‘blocking’ tactics from Virgin Racing’s Lucas di Grassi.
With a selection of cars having gone off the track at Stavelot corner, it was a touch between Trulli’s left-front wheel and the right-rear of di Grassi which caused the Brazilian’s car to spin.
“I’m really p***ed off, to be honest,” a frustrated Italian explained to reporters in the Spa paddock. “I can't believe everything is going wrong all the time time. Firstly, when we were queuing, the Virgins came out (into the pit lane) very late and tried to squeeze in, which is fair enough.
“But then I was following di Grassi, who was much slower and kept blocking me plus everybody behind me, so I then had so many people behind me; I kept trying to overtake but he was still blocking.
“We then started the (flying) laps and I tried to make a bit of a gap but, after half a lap I caught him again because I was much quicker. Then we arrived at the wet part of track and everybody started spinning off; I was right behind him, hit him and damaged the car.”
To make matters worse for Jarno, he and Lotus have been handed a fine of 4,400 euros (3,650 pounds) by FIA race stewards for speeding in the pit lane.
