Button: Spa retirement a massive blow

29 August 2010

World Champion Jenson Button has dubbed his Belgian Grand Prix retirement as a ‘massive blow’ to this year’s title chances, having been hit by Sebastian Vettel at the Bus Stop Chicane.

With the pair battling for second in Belgium, a mistake by Vettel on a damp circuit saw the Red Bull swing left before spearing back into the side of Button under braking.

“It was looking really good,” the McLaren driver told BBC Sport. “I had a good start, was running in second but had a damaged front wing - it was pretty tricky to keep them behind but I was doing a pretty good job, I thought.

“I don’t know what happened with Sebastian, all I felt was a big bang on the sidepod and it ripped the radiator out completely and so I lost dry.

“It’s a massive blow, a massive blow – it hurts quite a bit, really.”
