Mark Webber may have started the Belgian Grand Prix from pole position although the Australian was pleased to cross the finish line second to Lewis Hamilton, having endured a bad start which saw him drop to seventh.
With his Red Bull having gone into anti-stall mode, Webber sunk to seventh before climbing back to fifth and then taking advantage of first the Bus Stop Chicane incident between Jenson Button and team-mate Sebastian Vettel followed by a pit-stop blunder by Robert Kubica.
“I had a big bog on the formation lap, made a small adjustment to the clutch to try and get rid of it but had it even worse on the actual start,” Mark explained in the post-race press conference at Spa.
“Obviously I was pretty surprised but obviously it was massively exaggerated with the starts from the other guys.
“I had a good fight with Adrian (Sutil), got that back and had a good fight with Felipe (Massa) as well…it was a pretty mixed-up race. We had a good first pit-stop, the guys did a good job there but it wasn’t quite enough to jump Robert.
“I’m happy with second in the end. To have the top three qualifiers here, after a race like today, you’d normally never ever get that. It’s the wrong way round for me but it’s very, very easy to come away with nothing; everyone did great and we got some good points as we go to Monza.”
