Mercedes recovers from lowly grid positions

29 August 2010

The Mercedes Grand Prix drivers may have run into each other twice at Spa on Sunday although the team was pleased with its collection of 14 points following from starting positions of just 14th and 21st for Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher.

With the former having been docked five grid spots for a gearbox change and the latter ten for his aggressive move on Rubens Barrichello in Hungary, the two Germans swapped positions twice during the race on their ways to sixth and seventh places.

“My rain setup finally worked out towards the end there and I made up two places on the restart,” he said after sweeping past Kobayashi and Schumacher. Sixth place today is okay and it really is the most that we could have hoped for from this weekend.

“Michael and I had a couple of battles out there, which was fun - we respect each other and you just have to be careful and it all worked out okay.

“I am reasonably happy with today's race, especially for the team,” Schumacher added. “Coming where Nico and I started, I think we can all be pleased with the result and it is important points for the Constructors' Championship. For some reason, the number seven is somehow connected with me at Spa!”
