Swimming, cycling and running will be the name of the game for Brazilians Bruno Senna and Lucas di Grassi as they take part in the Monaco triathlon on Sunday. The task will see the Hispania driver take on a 100-kilometre cycle as part of his own personal training whereas the Virgin Racing pilot will attempt a 1-kilometre swim and 10-kilometre run.
Fellow competitors Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg may have already completed their own triathlons of late although the 2009 World Champion will once again be included in proceedings on Sunday, as will pole vault world record holder Sergei Bubka plus 40 relay teams and 660 individual competitors.
“For Lucas and I, this will be fun and a challenge,” said Senna.
“Our team is called Rib Fat, which is a combination of our nicknames for each other (due to Bruno breaking almost every rib in his body when karting and part of Lucas’ surname translating directly to ‘fat’).
“We are not competing to win the event but it will help our fitness training routines; I’m used to cycling and am really into the sport but, even for me, 100 kilometres in the hills is a long way and I’ll be happy if I come through with a good time and all my bones still in tact!”
