Due to their lowly grid positions, no surprises were expected from Mercedes GP in Belgium on Sunday although Nico Rosberg was pleasantly surprised to be able to climb to sixth position in Sunday’s race and now aims for a similar performance in Italy next weekend.
After setting off from 14th at Spa follow a 5-place grid drop penalty, Rosberg rose by no less than eight places in Sunday’s race.
“Monza is absolutely one of the top race tracks in the world,” said the German, “not only for the speed and the challenge but also for the passion and enthusiasm of the Italian fans, who really love their racing.
“There is always a special feeling about the Monza weekend and I love racing there. We made a good recovery from a difficult start to the weekend at Spa and it was nice to come away with some points.
“Monza is a completely different type of track but we will hope for an equally good weekend there.”
