F-duct advantage less at Monza, Kubica reminds

6 September 2010

Robert Kubica believes that this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix will provide a good example of the individual pace of each car in Formula 1, as the field prepares for the fastest track on the 2010 calendar. However, he also reiterates the point that Renault are unlikely to enjoy the straight-line speed advantage they possessed in Belgium.

Having run their f-duct for the first time at Spa two weekends ago, the Enstone outfit enjoyed a much-improved pace which allowed Kubica two run in second position for the majority of the race, only dropping one spot due to a driver error in the pit lane as rain began to fall in the closing stages.

Italy will see Robert race at Monza for the first time in a Renault, having picked up his first F1 podium for BMW in only his third Grand Prix four years ago.

“It’s hard to say and I think this will be a very interesting weekend to judge the performance of the cars,” the Pole replied when asked how he may fare this weekend.

“Spa was a good example of how powerful the f-duct can be and we were immediately more competitive and closer to the front when we fitted it.

“The effect will be less powerful at Monza because the cars run with less drag, but there will be still be an advantage so we need to see which teams use it and if we are able to as well.”
