Another learning curve to climb for Petrov

7 September 2010

Of the six circuits remaining on this year’s calendar, only one has been previously visited by 2010 newcomer Vitaly Petrov, meaning more track learning will be required once the European season is over.

The Russian impressed once again on Spa race day two weekends ago, rising to an eventual ninth place and two World Championship points after committing what proved to be a highly-criticised mistake by spinning on a wet kerb in qualifying.

“It was good to score some points but we could have done better,” the Vyborg driver acknowledged.

“Because of my mistake in qualifying, I only started from 23rd on the grid, but we made a good recovery and it was a good race; however, we know that we are capable of finishing much higher.”

Vitaly now heads to Monza, where he picked up pole position for Addax in GP2 12 months ago. However, the five subsequent ‘flyaway’ circuits will all require rapid adaptation, despite the Korean venue being new to all.

“Apart from Monza, I will need to learn all the other circuits where we will race in the last part of the season because I have never been to these places,” Petrov explained. “I will study videos and maps and look at data for those circuits.”
