Alonso and Massa to skip Ferrari hearing

8 September 2010

It has been reported by The Daily Telegraph that neither Fernando Alonso nor Felipe Massa will be attending Ferrari’s FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing in Paris this afternoon, following the team orders row of July’s German Grand Prix.

With the Italian team having been handed a 100,000-dollar fine on the evening following the race after being found guilty of intentionally altering the outcome – something which has been officially banned under sporting regulations since 2003 – it was initially thought that both drivers would be present in the French capital today.

However, it is now believed that only Team Principal Stefano Domenicali will be in attendance along with several Ferrari lawyers.

It is unsure whether a verdict will be released on Wednesday or Thursday although options available to the FIA include the docking of World Championship points and bans, be it instant or suspended.

Elsewhere, the FIA are also still set to investigate Massa’s alignment on the Spa-Francorchamps starting grid; on the day, despite the error being noticed by several television commentators and fans alike, neither the FIA’s electronic sensors nor track marshals pointed out the slip-up to stewards in Race Control.
