Todt: Not enough evidence to punish Ferrari

9 September 2010

FIA President Jean Todt has explained that the Formula 1 governing body was not provided with sufficient evidence to confirm that Ferrari team orders were used in the German Grand Prix. Following the Italian team's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing in Paris on Wednesday, no further sanction was imposed on the Scuderia following its initial 100,000 dollar fine in July.

A stripping of championship points and race bans had been suggested prior to Wednesday's hearing although Todt, despite admitting that he believes team orders were in place when Fernando Alonso overtook Felipe Massa for victory, has explained the FIA's situation.

“Before you say you are guilty, you need to be able to prove that you are guilty and, if you understand all who were asked, everybody has denied that it was a team order,” he told reporters in Place de la Concorde before being reminded of the general perception of the moment.

“I tend to agree as well. You should ask the people who have been deliberating for that; the decision here was to keep the order in which they finished the race.”
