Ferrari Team Principal Stefano Domenicali has stressed the importance of Formula 1 governing body the FIA now reconsidering regulations surrounding the use of team orders in the sport. The Italian squad escaped further punishment on Wednesday after the hearing surrounding Felipe Massa's yielding to team-mate Fernando Alonso in Germany.
With cases judged to be deliberate team orders having been banned since the start of the 2003 season, outcry followed this year's race at Hockenheim although – with the FIA having said that not enough evidence was provided to punish Ferrari further – Domenicali is pleased to be able to question the rule.
“I think that, for sure, the evidence and the facts led them to think that it is important to be 100 percent transparent and that is that is the positive thing of the day,” he explained to reporters outside the FIA headquarters.
When told that general enjoyment of the race faded for many because of the moment, Domenicali replied: “I think maybe you have been talking with some English people because, honestly, the Italians are very happy."
