Race organisers of the inaugural Korean Grand Prix have reiterated to GPUpdate.net that the brand-new Yeongam circuit will be ready on time ahead of the event on the penultimate weekend of October. The latest update follows Karun Chandhok's demonstration run for Red Bull Racing on Saturday.
Much speculation has surrounded the new race of late, with various media reports having suggested that the track will not be ready on time and therefore that the Grand Prix could be cancelled. However, KAVO (Korea Auto Valley Operation) remains confident that the country's first taste of Formula 1 will be enjoyed next month.
“The Korea International Circuit remains on schedule for completion and we look forward to the FIA inspection later this month,” a KAVO spokesperson told GPUpdate.net on Friday.
“A Formula 1 car took to the track for the first time last weekend during the Circuit Run 2010, our inaugural event, and the feedback we received from Karun Chandhok has been extremely positive while the local spectators demonstrated that there is no shortage of enthusiasm for the sport in Korea.
“Work is continuing at KIC and we are confident that all facilities will be completed to the highest standards in good time for the 2010 Korean Grand Prix next month.”
