Fernando Alonso has revealed that he and Ferrari were running a different amount in fuel in Monza's second practice session to the first one in Italy on Friday. With Sebastian Vettel leading the way for Red Bull, the local Tifosi were pleased to see the red cars move up from eighth and ninth to second and third on the day's final timesheets.
With a best effort of 1:22.915 at the classic venue, 2007 Monza winner Alonso ended the day just under a tenth off Vettel's leading pace. However, the Spaniard does admit that fuel amounts must be taken into account.
“We are pleased with what we achieved in these two free practice sessions,” he began. “We tried different aerodynamic configurations and now we must study the data carefully to make the right choices for tomorrow and Sunday.
“Between the two sessions we made some changes on the car, which seem to have moved us in the right direction, but we must keep in mind that we ran with various difference fuel levels.”
