Haryanto awarded Virgin Racing F1 test

12 September 2010

GP3 driver Rio Haryanto has earned a Formula 1 test drive with Virgin Racing following his maiden professional season in GP3. The Indonesian is placed fifth in the F1 feeder series' standings after collecting the Formula BMW Pacific title in dominant fashion last year.

The prize was offered by 2010 F1 debutants Virgin to the highest-placed driver in a Manor-built GP3 car this season, with John Booth's company also being that being the Richard Branson-funded squad.

'Virgin Racing is very happy to congratulate Rio and the team look forward to seeing him at the wheel of an F1 car,' a statement says of the 17-year-old from Solo.

'The test will take place after the end of the F1 season.'
