Hispania fined $20,000 for unsafe pit release

13 September 2010

Formula 1 governing body the FIA has fined Hispania Racing by the sum of 20,000 dollars (13,000 pounds) for the unsafe release from a pit-stop which resulted in the injury of a mechanic at Monza on Sunday.

Following Sakon Yamamoto's stop early in the race, the lollipop man released the Japanese driver in spite of a mechanic, who was hit, standing in front of the car's right-rear wheel.

With the man having been knocked to the floor, the incident required the brief closure of the pit lane as an ambulance parked in order to treat the mechanic with first aid.

Following a trip to the circuit medical centre, the man was then taken on to a local hospital in order for further analysis.
