Injured Hispania mechanic 'out of danger'

14 September 2010

It has been confirmed to GPUpdate.net that the unfortunate Hispania Racing mechanic who was knocked down by Sakon Yamamoto's car in the Monza pit lane remains in hospital, having sustained damage to both his neck and one knee. Fortunately, though, his condition is no longer classed as dangerous.

As Yamamoto pitted early on in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix, the Japanese driver was given the all clear to depart the area when the lollipop was raised; however, the man in question was still standing in front of the car's right-rear wheel and was pushed to the ground as a result.

“Our colleague is still in hospital under observation,” an HRT team spokesperson told GPUpdate.net on Tuesday morning. “He is out of danger but he will still have to stay in hospital until the doctors say so, as he suffered a very hard fall.

“He suffered a cranioencephalic traumatism and has hurt his neck and damaged one of his knees.”
