‘He really deserves a race seat’ – Franchitti on di Resta

15 September 2010

Having attended the Italian Grand Prix at the weekend, reigning IndyCar Series Champion Dario Franchitti is sure that fellow Scot and cousin Paul di Resta has proven his worth for a Formula 1 race seat in 2011.

Having joined Force India at the start of the current season, the 24-year-old from Uphall, West Lothian has taken part in a number of Friday free practice sessions for Force India, starting in Australia.

At Monza, Franchitti – a title contender in IndyCars once again this year – took time out of his own hectic schedule to watch his relative.

“I've been very closely involved in Paul's career since day one,” Dario commented. “He's my cousin and I've supported him, I've sponsored him and given him advice.

“I really do believe that he’s an exceptional driver; we've seen that by the way he’s doing the Fridays with Force India and he does it in the DTM car too - plus he did it in Formula 3, when he and Sebastian Vettel were team-mates and he won.

“I think he deserves that chance and I really hope he gets it…he's bloody good, really great to watch, so hopefully he’ll get the chance to really show people what he can do.”
