Alonso: Ferrari performance here to stay

15 September 2010

Fernando Alonso believes that Ferrari’s car is now more likely to perform well on all tracks, courtesy of recent developments following the Scuderia’s mid-season dip in form. The Spaniard, accompanied by Team Principal Stefano Domenicali, was in Maranello on Wednesday in order to celebrate with the entire team.

Having taken advantage of Sebastian Vettel’s spark plug problem in Bahrain and been allowed through by team-mate Felipe Massa in Germany, Alonso’s performance at Monza involved solely rapid pace from the former double Champion plus highly efficient pit work by his mechanics.

“I have gone through some really exciting moments over these last few days in Italy,” said the Oviedo man.

“Feeling so close to the Tifosi, that I had the impression I could touch their enthusiasm with my hand, was really something special.”

He added that Ferrari’s F10 is now expected to be rapid on any given track. “Despite failing to score at Spa, where the accident on the first lap weighed heavily like a stone, Ferrari and I have scored more points than anyone else in these last four races,” he continued.

“That makes us even more confident and the fact these results came on tracks with very different characteristics to each other confirms that our car is pretty versatile.”

On Wednesday, the third-placed championship man travelled to Madrid in order to take part in Spanish television game show 'El Hormiguero' (The Anteater), which blend comedy with scientific and political issues.
