Sullivan rejoins stewards for Singapore GP

22 September 2010

The United States’ Danny Sullivan will return to the stewards’ office this weekend in order to examine the on-track goings-on at Marina Bay, having first overseen proceedings for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim just under two months ago.

Under the FIA’s new-for-2010 initiative, a past or current racing driver sits alongside three regular stewards at each event this year in order to judge whether any penalties, fines or reprimands should be handed out for on-track incidents over the course of a race weekend.

Born in Louisville in 1950, Sullivan attended the Kentucky Military Institute before signing up for the Jim Russell Racing School. However, prior to his move into racing, Danny was also a New York taxi driver and even a lumberjack.

Winning at Indy for Penske in 1985, Sullivan’s sole season of F1 had come two years earlier, achieving a best finish of fifth for Benetton-sponsored Tyrrell at Monaco.
