Confirmed: De la Rosa to test for Pirelli

23 September 2010

Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier between 2011 and 2013, will be testing ex Sauber driver Pedro de la Rosa as its ongoing programme continues. The news, confirmed in an Istanbul press conference on Thursday, follows the Spaniard’s own substituting at Sauber by former Pirelli runner Nick Heidfeld.

With Heidfeld having departed Mercedes GP in order to assist Pirelli with its programme, the German has now returned to the team which housed him between 2001 and 2003 as well as under its BMW guise between 2006 and 2009.

Although Romain Grosjean has been driving the 2009 Toyota Pirelli is using at Monza this week, it is now official that de la Rosa – who brings seven years of testing experience from McLaren – will be in the cockpit.

“They will test until the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and after that all of the teams will test with Pirelli tyres for the first time,” Pirelli Tyre CEO Francesco Gori explained.
