De la Rosa ‘really pleased’ with Pirelli role

27 September 2010

Ex Sauber driver Pedro de la Rosa has been officially confirmed by Pirelli via press release as their tester for Formula 1’s 2011 tyres, with GPUpdate.net having reported the signing last Thursday after Nick Heidfeld took the Spaniard’s race seat.

With Heidfeld having been the first Pirelli tester, Romain Grosjean completed last week’s running at Monza although de la Rosa will now remain in the white-painted 2009 Toyota chassis until the pre-season programme ends.

“I'm really pleased to be joining Pirelli,” commented the Barcelona man, who was McLaren’s full-time tester between 2003 and 2009. “Tyre testing is something that I have always enjoyed as it is a very big challenge, especially in Formula 1.

“The information you can get from telemetry and sensors is valuable but nothing replaces the individual feeling of a driver with new tyres, so I hope I can be a real asset to Pirelli.

“There's not a lot of time left and a huge amount of work to do but I'm very much looking forward to it and I am sure that our collaboration will be a success.

“A lot of useful work has been done already and now we have the opportunity of taking it forward.”
