There is no guarantee the Singapore Grand Prix will continue beyond 2012 it is being reported. Although F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is eager to see it remain on the schedule - and said last weekend that he would like the night race to stay on the calendar for another 20 years - its inclusion will come down to simple economics.
"We've gone through three quite different years in our experience with F1," Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry S.Iswaran told Reuters. "They give us a good set of data points from which to assess the F1 from.
"We want to make sure the economic benefits are justifiable going forward. I would say the [Singapore governments] decision to proceed will rest on a robust cost-benefit analysis, and clearly the terms on any deal we get going forward."
Singapore has already established itself as one of the highlights on the calendar since staging its inaugural race in 2008 and it is not for nothing it is known as the ‘Monaco of the East’.
Post-race Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Vice-President Norbert Haug echoed the thoughts of many when he paid homage to the event: “Singapore is one of the very best places to stage a race and on behalf of Mercedes-Benz, I would like to give our compliments to the organisers who have built up a benchmark race in a very short period of time,” he noted.
