Mixed feelings at Virgin after qualifying

2010 South Korean Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

A mixture of emotions were on offer in the Virgin Racing camp following qualifying for the Korean Grand Prix. Timo Glock will start 19th on Sunday’s grid, having split the two Lotus cars and soon to take advantage of Vitaly Petrov’s five-place penalty, with team-mate Lucas di Grassi three places further back in 22nd.

Virgin’s Glock finished ahead of Lotus’ Heikki Kovalainen in this morning’s third practice session and successfully repeated the feat in qualifying, with the two teams battling to be officially classified tenth in the Constructors’ Championship for a significant end-of-year payout from Formula 1 commercial rights holder FOM.

“Today was a pretty good qualifying session for me,” said Timo.

“We made the right change from this morning’s free practice to qualifying and I had a very good first run. The second one was good as well and I was able to get everything possible out of the car.

“I couldn’t do any more, so I’m happy with the result and due to Petrov’s penalty we move over to the clean side of the track, which will help us at the race start tomorrow. It should be an interesting race and I’m looking forward to it.”

Team-mate di Grassi was less pleased, though.

“It was not a very good qualifying for me today,” the Brazilian commented plainly. “I did not manage to use my second set of qualifying Option (softer compound) tyres properly as, on my two timed laps I got traffic and then I made a mistake, so for sure there is more to come.”
