Webber 'absolutely' believes he can still win title

26 October 2010

Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber has said he is going to 'relish' the final two races of the season in Brazil and Abu Dhabi as he looks to re-assert his position at the top of the F1 2010 Drivers’ Championship.

Webber went into the Korean Grand Prix with a 14 lead. However, early in the race he crashed out when he got caught out by the tricky conditions.

It was only his second DNF of the season, but with his nearest rival, Fernando Alonso, coming through to win and take the maximum 25 points, the Aussie now drops back to second in the standings, eleven points adrift.

“It was a pretty extraordinary race and it’s closed things up at the top of the world championship,” Webber told his personal website. “But I absolutely believe that I can [still] win the title.

“The RB6 is a great car and I’m going to relish these last two races in Brazil and Abu Dhabi. To be racing against guys of Fernando’s calibre is very rewarding and beating them is what sport at this level is all about.”

Webber meanwhile reiterated that the crash was his mistake: “It was very disappointing not to finish. The track conditions were treacherous due to the rain and I crashed at the exit of Turn 12. I lost the rear of the car on a kerb; it was 100 per cent my fault and that’s the end of it. The only thing to do now is move on to the next race,” he concluded.
