Those who followed FOM’s live television coverage of Brazil’s second practice session on Friday will have heard an excitable Lucas di Grassi talking viewers around a lap of his home circuit, which he drove for the first time in a Formula 1 car.
With Virgin Racing reserve driver Jérôme d’Ambrosio having driven in his fourth and final practice session in the morning, di Grassi was forced to wait until the afternoon before becoming the second Brazilian rookie to drive the track this weekend.
“It is just an amazing feeling to be racing in my hometown and I’m very excited about the whole weekend,” he said later in the evening.
“Today was a good start; although I missed the first session, I was still able to get up to speed quite quickly.
“I think we made all the right setup changes, so I’m feeling competitive this weekend and of course I have that little extra motivation that a home race brings.”
