Bruno Senna was left confused by his team’s decision not to make a tyre change in Q1 qualifying at Interlagos – with hindsight, a wrong call which left the Brazilian a massive half second slower than Hispania team-mate Christian Klien.
“We could have done better today if we would have changed the tyres during the session,” said Bruno, with the 17th anniversary of late uncle and triple World Champion Ayrton’s final Formula 1 win to be marked on Sunday.
“The track got quicker at the end of qualifying but unfortunately we couldn’t use it. We hope to have more luck tomorrow, when it is expected to be dry again.
"It's going to be a long and tough race and I am looking forward to compete in a Formula 1 car here at home in Brazil.”
Klien, on the other hand, is promoted to 20th courtesy of Adrian Sutil’s five-place grid drop and missed out on Lucas di Grassi’s Virgin Racing lap time by two tenths of a second.
“I am very pleased about the qualifying outcome today in these difficult conditions,” the Austrian commented. “This morning was the first time I had driven this car in the rain and in qualifying especially it was very important not to make any mistakes.
“I managed to stay on the track and could improve my lap times at the end of the session. We hope to fight for positions in the race tomorrow and we are well prepared for it.”
