Bruno Senna was pleased with his performance at Interlagos, having driven in the Brazilian Grand Prix for the first time and therefore confirmed the racing return at the venue of his legendary family name.

Late triple World Champion Ayrton Senna celebrated two victories at the São Paulo track for McLaren, in 1991 and 1993, and today’s home race for Bruno fell on the 17th anniversary of his uncle’s last Formula 1 win at the 1993 Australian Grand Prix.

“We had a strong race today and we finished just behind the other new teams,” Bruno commented. “I am very satisfied with the result I could achieve at my first Formula 1 race at home in Brazil.

“It was a good feeling before the race, when the crowd was chanting, and they gave me a lot of energy for the 71 laps. I am very thankful for the support of the fans and the team’s good work.”

However, team-mate Christian Klien was less fortunate, suffering a glitch before joining the race three laps late.

“Unfortunately, the car stopped on the way to the grid due to fuel pressure problems,” the Austrian explained, “but the mechanics did a very good job and managed to fix the car so that we could go in the race after four laps.

“The race was a test for us in order to gain some race kilometres; the lap times were good and we could keep up with the pace of the other new teams.

“Due to the problems I had at the beginning, I had more fuel in the car but I was able to finish the race with constant lap times.”
