Fairuz Fauzy made a return to the cockpit on Friday in order to complete his 2010 programme with Lotus Racing. Although the Malaysian finished slowest of the 24 runners when driving Heikki Kovalainen’s car in first practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he remains content.
Fauzy’s final quickest practice lap time of the year was 1:51.705, which trailed team-mate Jarno Trulli by 3.3 seconds as the Kuala Lumpur man acclimatised again with just a single set of Bridgestones available to him.
“I’m pretty satisfied with how it went today but it was tricky for the first few laps,” Fauzy commented.
“After the rain, which I think took everyone by surprise, the track was quite damp in places and - combining that with the fact that I could only use one set of tyres - meant I couldn’t really push.
“Despite that, it was great to be back in the car and I think I did a good team job today.”
