Force India Team Manager Andy Stevenson has said that all employees at the company should feel proud of their efforts this year, with the Silverstone-based outfit having finished a personal best seventh in the Constructors’ Championship and behind only teams which are either current or former title winners.
Although Force India strived to finish 2010 sixth overall once Renault had pulled ahead by a significant margin in fifth, Williams then moved above them in the table after the Brazilian Grand Prix before ending the campaign in front by a single point.
“I think as a team we’ve done an extremely good job, certainly where we’ve come from in recent years,” Stevenson said in the squad’s official post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix podcast. “We’ve been up there, racing with the best, for top ten positions in many races and scoring plenty of points.
“Unfortunately for us, Williams seemed to get their act together a bit towards the last third of the season and were catching us up and finally overtook us, but for the team it’s been really good.
“We’ve spoken to the guys and we’ll speak to everybody back at the factory. We’ve got to hold our heads high from this one; it was a great achievement, everything is coming together and we will come back next year better and stronger.
“We’re increasing our capacity back at the factory, as far as engineering expertise goes, and hopefully we can come out with a car that’ll be faster for next year.”
Moving on to discuss ambitions for 2011, Stevenson continued:
“We’re gonna win! No, we want to be competitive again and fifth was our aim this year and it’s the same for next year, that’s what we’re going to be looking at – fifth or better – and we won’t rest until we can do it, so it’s just to work as hard as we can, develop as much as we can and hopefully be as competitive as we can next year.”
