Hill: Schumacher didn’t disgrace himself

7 December 2010

1996 Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill has predicted that Michael Schumacher will ‘prove everyone wrong in 2011’ and bounce back from what was a pretty disappointing comeback year. Indeed while Schumacher’s performances weren’t especially great in 2010, Hill added he didn’t think the German did that bad, even if he did only finish ninth in the standings.

"I don't think he disgraced himself at all this year," Hill told the Press Association. "He showed it's hard to come back and maintain pace when you're older.

“He will have had things to think about I'm sure, but he will never give up. That's what defines him. He's a formidable competitor, and I'm sure he is going to prove everyone wrong next year."

Sir Stirling Moss meanwhile was less generous and added that the 41-year-old was wrong to return to try and take that eighth crown.

"I don't think he regrets coming back, but it was ill-advised. The fact he is carrying on next year though is interesting, although quite frankly, I wouldn't be worried if I was up against him," added the 81-year-old, who never won the title himself, but was runner-up four times.
