Hispania Team Principal Colin Kolles has revealed that Spanish team is in talks with Davide Valsecchi, although he added that the Italian is just one of a number of drivers’ that is in the frame for the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship.
Valsecchi, who won the 2009-2010 GP2 Asia Series and who finished eighth in the 'main' GP2 Series this season, tested for HRT last month at the ‘Young Driver Test’ in Abu Dhabi and Kolles was pleased with how the 23-year-old performed.
"I think he did a very good job in the test, this is what I think about him,” he told 422race.com. “If he does the same job as he did in the test, then he's ready to be in F1 next season.
“We are talking to him and to many other drivers too, as you might know: I'm not going to comment on which are the drivers, because I don't think it is right to comment to whom I'm talking to unless I have a contract signed.
“We are not necessarily in a hurry - the deadline is three days before the first race, but the sooner the better. The 2011 car? We will have one. And we are in the process of manufacturing it.”
Valsecchi meanwhile, who ended his GP2 season on a high by winning the sprint race in Abu Dhabi, reckons HRT will be a lot closer to the pace in 2011.
“Obviously my dream is to race in F1, as for all the drivers,” he continued. “But if this means to be always at the back, then I'd have more fun to race and win in GP2.
“But I have to say that the first contacts with Hispania impressed me and I think next year they'll be able to do a big step forward, in part thanks to the gearbox supply signed with Williams. So this makes me confident they'll be much more competitive than this year."
