Branson's AirAsia flight confirmed for February

13 December 2010

A somewhat smug Tony Fernandes has proudly confirmed the date of Sir Richard Branson’s flight as an AirAsia ‘stewardess’, with the Englishman having lost out in a Formula 1-related bet with the fellow airline-owning Malaysian.

In the gamble established before last Christmas, Branson and Fernandes – co-owners of Virgin Racing and Lotus Racing, respectively – each agreed to work on the other’s airline – Virgin Atlantic or AirAsia – in the event of their new F1 team finishing behind the other in their debut 2010 campaigns.

Although neither scored points, Lotus were classified tenth – ahead of Hispania and Virgin – thanks to Heikki Kovalainen’s 12th place finish at Suzuka.

“It’s confirmed Feb 21st 2011,” Fernandes announces via his personal Twitter feed. “Richard Branson will be a crew of AirAsia X. London-Kuala Lumpur. Leaves London Stansted in the morning.”
