HRT: Rivals had more experienced drivers

15 December 2010

Hispania Racing Team Principal Colin Kolles has said that inexperienced drivers was a likely reason for the Spanish team not being able to challenge fellow debutants Lotus Racing and Virgin Racing on a regular basis throughout the 2010 season.

HRT began the season with Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok before the Brazilian was briefly replaced by Japan’s Sakon Yamamoto at Silverstone.

From Germany onwards, Yamamoto substituted for Chandhok before the former was then replaced by Christian Klien for the campaign’s final pair of Grands Prix in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

“It was a difficult year but we were the most reliable new team,” Romanian Kolles said on Wednesday morning.

“I think the only reason why we didn’t finish tenth is that teams like Lotus and Virgin had more experienced drivers over the whole season.

"I think that in testing we showed quite a good performance in relation to the other new teams.”
