Ecclestone buys Briatore share of QPR

18 December 2010

Formula 1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has purchased former Renault Team Manager Flavio Briatore’s stake in English Championship football club Queens Park Rangers.

The pair bought into the London club together in 2007 although it has now been confirmed that the Italian no longer holds a share of its ownership; Ecclestone is now estimated to possess a majority 62 percent shareholding.

“We're not changing anything, just tidying a few things up,” the 80-year-old explained to Reuters. “We need to be ready in case we get promoted.”

Ecclestone will continue to work alongside Indian steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, with the club currently top of the division and heading for a return to the Premier League for the first time since 1996.
