Lucas di Grassi will be taking part in a newly-formed karting event in Brazil this weekend, marking the start of this year’s Brazilian motorsport calendar. The ex-Virgin Racing man will be joined by several racing drivers, including 2010 Stock Car Champion Max Wilson, Ricardo Mauricio, Diego Nunes, Thiago Camilo, Marco Gomes, Daniel Serra and Xandinho Negrão.
As one of the founders of the event, di Grassi wanted to create a series that would signal the beginning of motorsport activity in Brazil this year. The racing will take place on a 1,270 metre-long track, with grandstands, box seating and floodlights all present at the circuit which is based around 200km (125 miles) away from the capital, São Paulo.
Speaking about the weekend ahead, di Grassi commented: “We had this idea in late 2010. We wanted to make a go-kart race in early 2011 to mark the opening of the Brazilian auto racing season. We want to do it every year, always at different kart tracks in Brazil.”
Fans who are eager to see the action on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 can pick up a grandstand ticket for just ten dollars (six pounds) or a cabin seat for 400 dollars (250 pounds).
