Lowe becomes McLaren Technical Director

Lowe becomes McLaren Technical Director

27 January 2011

Paddy Lowe has been appointed Technical Director of McLaren following an internal reshuffle at the Woking squad. Having graduated from his previous role as Engineering Director, he will now be in charge of the team’s technical strategy whilst working closely with Tim Goss and Neil Oatley.

With Lowe promoted, Goss – Chief Engineer of this year’s MP4-25 car – will take on a larger role within the development programme by becoming Director of Engineering. Oatley, who joined McLaren 25 years ago, continues in his higher position as Director of Design and Development programmes.

“It’s great for Neil and me to be joined by Tim as another director on the technical side,” Lowe commented.

“With the three of us, we’ll not only be able to more efficiently spread our workload but, through Tim & me, we’ll also share race attendance.

“It’s very important to have senior technical management at the race track because that’s where you score the points but, equally, if you spend all your time away then you risk overlooking some of the hard work that happens back at the factory.”
